Experienced Birth Doula Services, CD(DONA) CPBD(toLabor) serving the DMV
**AT THIS TIME I AM NOT TAKING NEW DOULA CLIENTS and will most likely refer you to my doula partner(s)/a popular doula group or help you find an appropriate match- *May 2016**
I offer phone/skype consultations after the nearly 600 births I've attended in the District Maryland & Virginia. BOOK HERE and email: firstname.lastname@example.org or text: 202.600.8349 to see if I can best answer your questions and help you prepare for your birthing experience.
All initial consultations are complimentary. Candice Jones and I meet with potential clients most Sundays at a Meet the Doula event in South Arlington. Partners, friends, and family members (including children and little ones) are welcome.
I am a seasoned doula in the DC area (7 years and hundreds of births) and maintain my doula certifications through DONA International and The Organization of Labor Assistants for Birth Options & Resources (formerly ALACE). As a doula I am here to support and champion the individual wishes and experience for each mother, I have no other agenda. I am trained as a midwife and carry the wisdom of supporting over 500 families in their pregnancies, labor, delivery, and postpartum experiences I've collected locally and abroad in my work and studies in maternal health.
As a doula I help parents obtain natural deliveries and I wholeheartedly support those who seek and plan for epidurals or medicated births as well.
I enjoy the positive clinical and professional rapport I have with area doctors nurses and midwives in all area hospitals and birthing centers
I do not replace your partner but help emphasize the ways that they already know how to best support and comfort you. Partners may feel heavily tasked with sustaining safety, advocacy, and the pressures of being the perfect birth companion. For most active partners I offer suggestions or model techniques, providing relief so they can take breaks without fear of leaving your side. I provide reassurance to both mom and partner.
As part of my birth doula packages my clients that choose to work with me after a Meet the Doula event are welcome to attend free monthly birth workshops with other expecting parents on rotating topics through their pregnancy and postpartum: preparing for the postpartum period and breastfeeding, overcoming fear and preparing for a positive birth, the birth partner, and a breastfeeding support group. It is facilitated by District Doulas and is located in Arlington Virginia. All workshops are free for my clients and an excellent opportunity to connect more with your doula, meet other expecting families, and meet the primary backup doula(s). Many of my moms (and partners!) have formed a network and close friendships.
For those with experience and on a tighter budget, ask about my Labor-Only service usually reserved for specific providers and special circumstances. This service is for labor and delivery support with an initial meeting done via Skype and immediate postnatal support after delivery at your birthing place.
Everybody seeking labor support deserves a doula, please don't go without! If you are looking for a low cost or student doula I can share resources.
Additional childbirth education primer prenatal educational meetings or postnatal visits can always be arranged, or ask about my current postpartum doula availability.
